Because You Care, Extraordinary Things Happen In Our Community!

Three years ago we launched Because You Care, a campaign to tackle the worst pain points our families were experiencing. You answered the call. It has been nothing short of transformational.
You gave us the tools to:

Reduce Club Waiting Times… By A Year!
At the peak, families were waiting well over 18 months to get a spot in one of our amazing clubs for people living with dementia – a lifetime for people on the brink of burnout. You reduced wait times to 6 months.
Increase Support for Family Caregivers
As the focus shifts to caring for people at home, family caregivers are feeling the pressure. You added 1,000+ caregiver support service units to our community, a 41% increase.
Protect The Mobility Of Older Adults
Strength, balance, and endurance are key to healthy aging – but they’re difficult to maintain if you can’t easily leave your home. You helped 94% of older adults in our Home Support Exercise Program improve their physical health, keeping them living well longer. BOOM!
Stamp Out Loneliness
By phone, by visit, by volunteer, by summer student, by walking dates, by shared meals, by iPad! You supported innovation across our social support programs to help more isolated older adults form enduring connections. BOOM!
Expand Grief Supports
Grief is heavy. You lightened the load by expanding bereavement support for our 2SLGBTQ+ community, adding more support groups, and providing learning opportunities for everyone.
Bring Patty’s Place To Life
Everyone wants to come to Patty’s Place! You subsidized care for low income club members and helped more people access the fun, joy and friendship of Patty’s Place.
Client Stories
“I got diabetes about a year ago. It went right into my legs and made them immobile, so I couldn’t walk. With the Home Support Exercise Program I did all kinds of exercises, including walking, to get the strength back into my legs. Then I started with weights. I saw progress every week when Leanne came. Of course, I did the exercises she taught me in between her visits too. Her involvement really guided me through the next steps, which was really valuable. She’s a great motivator!
We have 3 or 4 steps from the house for me to get into the garden or the car. What really made the difference for me was practicing going up and down those steps with Leanne. Once I was successful with those steps, I regained my confidence and it freed me up to leave the house. I could go to a restaurant or go shopping again. It felt great!
My next goal is to walk with a cane instead of a walker. I’ll keep working at it.
The Home Support Exercise Program gave me freedom. The freedom to get out of the house. Now I can go for walks on the greenbelt with my wife. I missed doing that the most.”

Because You Care… George Has An Audience For His Jokes
“George needs the social part of coming to the club and the interaction with other people. The days that he doesn’t come here, he’s seems depressed – he sleeps a lot, and I think he’s bored. But when he comes to the club he opens right up. He likes telling jokes and they’re all happy to hear his jokes. It gives him a purpose in his day. He’s always been a really social guy.
Plus it’s great for me, because I can go and do things. I don’t worry about him when he’s here, because the staff members are wonderful. As a caregiver, that’s really important.”
