Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care
Enhance your knowledge of hospice palliative care with this introductory course appropriate for all roles.
The Mississauga Health Ontario Health Team (MOHT) and Hills of Headwaters Collaborative Ontario Health Team (HOHCOHT) are sponsoring a limited number of seats for organizations who have been identified to collaborate with the Mississauga and Hills of Headwaters Palliative Care Clinical Coach to attend one of the upcoming courses listed below.
This introductory level program is for anyone working in the health system who supports people living with a life-limiting illness with an interest in developing their capacity related to hospice palliative care.
Cost: $40 (non – refundable after deadline)
Course Components
Following the completion of this program, the learner will:
- Demonstrate sensitivity, understanding and respect for the individuality of the person, family and team/caregivers
- Identify and understand issues associated with illness and bereavement (domains of issues)
- Effectively communicate with the person, family and team
- Recognize and report changes in any of the domains of issues associated with illness and bereavement
- Provide hospice palliative supportive care strategies
- Actively learn and develop personally and contribute as part of a team and organization
- Demonstrate sensitively to the impact of personal attitudes, behaviours and values on the illness experience of the person, family and team/caregivers
Program Expectations
Full participation is mandatory to receive a Certificate of Completion:
- Attend all 3 Case-Based Learning Virtual Classroom Sessions with the option you have chosen below. (Classroom sessions are NOT webinars and learners are to actively participate in activities and discussions)
- Schedule your time accordingly and ensure there are no conflicts with each class session.
- Complete Self-Directed Readings and e-Learning Modules found on the D2L Brightspace platform
- Participate in two Peer-to-Peer Exchanges
- Complete one Reflective Activity
Technology Requirements
All program materials will now be accessed online on the Partnering for Palliative Education platform through D2L’s Brightspace Learning Environment. Virtual Classroom session links will be provided on this platform.
